From the 30th October 2008 - 3rd November 2008, Chief Instructor Sensei Steven Wellington of the Ken-bu-kan dojo-Swansea and Sensei Roger Clark of Kihon Karate Wales, both associates the Welsh Karate Association; were invited by the President of the European Federation to take a squad of their finest students to the European Wado Kai Championships, which took place in Bucharest, Romania.
We the Welsh Karate association are the 59th countrie to become members of the ever growing European Federation and were honnored to be invited to take part in they're tournament last weekend.
The tournament was a success for the Welsh students who were representing they're country over those few days; after a grueliing 10 hr flight in all to get over there, we managed to bring home a European Champion David Godfrey aged 22yrs, he fought against the odds but pushed it out that little bit further to attain 1st place in the Mens under 70kgs kumite event. David Trains at the Ken-bu-kan under the expert guidance of Sensei Steven Wellington.
Kihon Karate Wales's own Joss Richards aged 15 snatched a 3rd position in the Wado Kai Kata event, and Scott west who also trains with karate Wales took 3rd position in the Kumite Event for the boys under 13 yrs.
Here are the winning team who were selected for this prestigous event, pictured from left to right:
Dylan West (K.K.W) Joss Richards 3rd place medalist (K.K.W) Richard Chambers (K.K.W) David Godfrey the new European Champion (K.B.K) Scott West 3rd place medalist (K.K.W) and Jordan West (K.K.W)
We're all very proud of the competitors, they waved the welsh flag with prided and brought the championships home to Wales.
All students here have been taught under the the expert eye of Sensei Roger Clark and Sensei Steven Wellington who have continually gone on to prove that they are the finnest Martial arts teachers in South Wales and the students have proven that the Welsh Karate Association is the founder of Champions.
