Last Saturday (November 4th 2006) saw Britain hold the first ever European Wado Kai Karate Championships held in London.
A 12 Man Squad were hand selected by one of the Welsh Karate Associations own founders - Sensei Steven Wellington (Head Senior Coach)
2 of the students selected from our club (Kihon Karate wales) for they're Skill, Talent and Sportmanship were Richard Chambers 1st Dan aged 16 and Joss Richards 1st Kyu aged 13.
Richard Chambers fought his way through to achieve 2nd place in the Gumite event narrowly loosing to a very talented Italian.
Joss Richards who also fought his way through to 2nd place in Gumite loosing to one of Irelands finest fighters in the final event.
A twist to the days events happened when the Welsh Gumite Team were down 1 man due to injury. Kihon's own Instructor Roger Clark (Acting Junior Coach for that day) was asked to fill in the gaps to keep the Welsh Gumite 'Team' in the event. Not having competed at an 'International Level' for 5 years due to a serious knee injury years before, Roger along side the Welsh Team fought they're way through to steel second place loosing to Russia.
The Welsh Squad fought with 'Pride, Honor and Dedication. David Godfrey who a student of the Ken-Bu-Kan dojo Swansea, attained the Gold Medal and the title of "European Champion" for the senior Gumite. Well done David.
